What I Learned At Day Camp – The GKN Weekly Update 10/21/14

Hello and Happy Clean Your Virtual Desktop Day and CAPS LOCK Day! DON’T YOU LOVE IT WHEN PEOPLE WRITE AN ENTIRE EMAIL LIKE THIS?! OR EVEN BETTER, A SCRIPT?! I AM NOT SHOUTING AT YOU! SERIOUSLY!!!

I spent last weekend at a wedding. It was held at beautiful Camp Becket in Massachusetts. We had the whole place to ourselves and there were all kinds of fun activities. Of all the great things about the camp, what struck me the most was “The Becket Mottoes”:

Wonderful, right? Here’s a nice list so you can save/post/share it:

Which one is your favorite?

TIP OF THE WEEK: My favorite is “Better Faithful Than Famous”. In a day camp context my guess is that it means ‘being a loyal friend is more important than being popular’. I, who always have my “voiceover glasses” on (sometimes to my detriment, frankly) interpreted it as a path to professional success.

I think you would be better served by focusing on being a good friend & colleague rather than climbing over everyone to “get to the top”, whatever the hell that means.

Like I’ve said; success is not vertical, it’s spherical. Be good & faithful in order to expand the sphere of people that can count on you to be professional, trustworthy, and kind. That is a sure-fire path to true success!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

STUFF!: This is me about 50 feet above the ground just before I flung myself into the ether on a Zip Line!

Who me, nervous? 🙂
