Voiceovers And 2020 – The Not Silent Blog 12/15/20

So…2020.

It’s been a helluva year but you don’t need me to tell you that. From a voiceover perspective it’s been interesting. Here’s a brief breakdown of 2020 for me as a voice actor:

Cash Flow: with two weeks to go, I made more in 2020 than I did in 2019 but the proportion of genres changed. I did less commercials and industrials but more ADR, promo, podcast, and news article narration. I like that because I’m expanding into different genres.

Tools: I got a new computer, new headphones, a new pop filter, and a new shock mount. I also produced a Telephony Demo.

Technique: I started getting regular coaching in Commercial narration. It’s having a positive influence in all of my genres since I’m now focusing more on acting which I damn well should since I’m a theatre-trained actor.

Marketing: my marketing efforts were COVID-centric in nature, if that makes any sense. I was trying to connect on a more human-to-human level by sending more personalized correspondences. Did it work? It’s hard to say, but I did have some heartfelt conversations with many potential, existing, and past clients and that’s always a good thing.

Health: I lost ten pounds and my cholesterol levels are lower than last year.

TIP OF THE WEEK

Take the time to look back at 2020 from a voiceover business perspective. Break down this year’s efforts and accomplishments into the five categories of your voiceover business. Did you hit all of your goals? When the pandemic hit, did you have to alter your goals or methods? How effective were your adaptive tactics? What did you learn about your voiceover business and yourself that you can apply to 2021?

2020 was a tough year for everyone but I know that you will be stronger for it!

This is the last Not Silent Blog entry for 2020. Thank for all of your support and kind words. Have a very safe and bountiful holiday season. See you in 2021!
