Hello and Happy April Fool’s Day! I’d try to come up with something clever to fool y’all with, but you guys are too savvy for me. Did I mention that I’m moving to Fiji?
NEWS AND NOTES!
I want to thank my college pal Doug Bollinger for asking me to be a part of his staged reading last week. It was for a new screenplay he’s writing and it was a lot of fun. A big shout-out to my other college pal Jason Yudoff for being part of the reading as well. Great seeing both of you!
I narrated my first app! It’s called Mind Warrior.
I finished narrating “Father Found”, the first book in The Daddy School series. It was a pleasure! I already started on the next one, titled “Father Christmas”.
It’s the beginning of the second quarter of the year. A time to reflect. A time to ponder. A time so see how much of a slacker you are!
This is the time of year where the last vestiges of guilt about that lame New Year’s Resolution you made have fallen away and you’re back in your rut, wondering where the last three months went. At the same time, you’re posting kitten pics & TGIF proclamations all over Facebook and patting yourself on the back at your social media prowess.
Feels good, right?
So let’s come up with a REAL quarterly report.
Not like one this guy would make you write.
An effective report that truly reflects your efforts (or lack thereof) thus far in 2014.
Cash Flow: How many gigs did you book this quarter? Is it more or less than this time last year?
Tools: Did you improve your hardware? Software? Recording space?
Technique: How much coaching did you receive? Did you produce or improve any demos?
Marketing: How many new relationships did you develop? How many old ones did you nurture?
Health: Are you using your time more efficiently?
TIP OF THE WEEK: Sounds harsh? Good. Are you annoyed? Even better! You need to get pissed off at yourself sometimes. Light a fire under your ass, question your methods, and break your old habits. It is so easy to fall into an unhealthy mental routine; tricking yourself into believing that your system works and you can’t change what doesn’t work. Get out of your rut! Look at both your business and yourself from a different angle. Force yourself to examine the things about you that you really don’t like, but have neglected to work on throughout your adult life. Even if you fix one small thing, break one small habit, it makes overcoming your other challenges that much easier!
QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
“As president, I believe that robotics can inspire young people to pursue science and engineering.
And I also want to keep an eye on those robots in case they try anything.”
– President Barack Obama at the launch of his Educate to Innovate Campaign
STUFF!: I hit both ends of the spectrum in my movie-watching last week with Slapshot and Rio. Both highly entertaining in their own special way!
From Tom Dheere’s apartment, this is Tom Dheere: GKN News…
