The voice over industry.
Where a guy like me can have a career that spans decades, and a wardrobe that rarely ventures beyond blue jeans & t-shirts, though I do enjoy sporting a tie & vest at my conference presentations. It's a wild ride, full of twists and turns that'll leave your head spinning.
Voice Over Industry Trends
Right now, everyone and their grandma wants to be a voiceover artist. Why? Because the barrier to entry is low, and the promise of easy cash is high. Newsflash: this ain't no get-rich-quick scheme. It takes skill, practice, and a whole lot of marketing mojo.
The Rise of the Home Studio
Gone are the days of voice actors patronizing fancy recording studios and commanding exorbitant hourly fees. Today, it's all about the home setup. Think closet-turned-studio, acoustic panels made from IKEA hacks, and a microphone your ordered online. It's about the gear and the pipes you're packing (that's vocal talent).
The Ego Has Landed
Voiceover artists? We're a special breed. We've got egos the size of Texas, and the insecurity of a teenager on prom night. One minute we're on top of the world, the next we're convinced we suck and should just quit now. It's a rollercoaster, folks, but hey, at least the view's interesting.
The Bottom Line
The voiceover industry? It's a wild, wacky world, full of ups and downs. But for those of us who thrive in the chaos, it's the perfect gig. There is nothing else in the world that I would rather do for living.
