3 Health Tips For 2017 – The Not Silent Blog 1/31/17
This is the fifth of five blog entries that will focus on getting your **** together for 2017. Wanna catch up first? Here’s Part 1: Cash Flow, Part 2: Tools, Part 3: Technique, and Part 4: Marketing. Last up: Health!
I’ve been doing VO Strategist coaching for almost five years. At the end of the “diagnostic” portion of the sessions I have with my students, I always ask the same question…
What keeps getting in your way?
…and the answer is always the same…
Life! Fear! Isolation!
…and I always tell them the same thing…
You are not alone!
Whatever problems you have with your voiceover business are most likely the same problems that just about everyone else has. Please take comfort in that.
TIP OF THE WEEK
Health is by far the most important part of both your voiceover business and your life. Everything good in your life flows from good health both outside, inside, and “upstairs”. Here are three tips to being truly healthy:
- Take care of yourself physically. I’m not talking about just the obvious stuff like smoking, drinking, drug use, bad diet, and not exercising. I’m talking about when you have anything bothering you physically like a bad tooth, a sore hip, numbness, whatever, SEE A DOCTOR NOW! I have heard too many tragic stories about people who suffered unnecessarily and even died because they wouldn’t take care of themselves. There are people out there who love you and need you so do it for them, if not for yourself.
- Take care of your self mentally. I’m not talking about the power of positive thinking and other New Age-y crap. I’m talking about thinking and behaving like a professional. Develop strong & effective Systems of Thought and Systems of Execution. Craft a Mission Statement, Annual Goals, Actionable Items, and a Monthly Action Plan. And yes, I can help you with that!
- Take care of your relationships. I’m not talking about just being nice, which obviously you should be. I’m talking about being a thoughtful part of the voiceover community in relation to your colleagues as well as your clients. Be a giver, a contributor, and a good listener. This is a tough, frustrating industry and sometimes we need to vent in a safe, nurturing environment. Be there for your fellow voice talkers. Give, give give!
